What is a parasitic draw?

A parasitic draw is when something electrical is using energy while your vehicle or other electrical device is powered off and should not be using electricity.

This could be in your vehicle, where we most commonly talk about this issue, or it could be in an appliance, tool, equipment or other electrical device.
While it generally applies to something with a battery in it, a parasitic draw is simply something that is using electricity when we don’t want it to, or when it is ‘turned off’.

A parasitic draw is typically one in which a battery is being drawn down in equipment that is not being used or does not have anything turned on, most often caused by one or more circuits using electricity that are not supposed to be.
