Client sent me a Dell Latitude E6420 laptop that was in good shape, but had no OS.
I pulled the back cover off, gave it a solid lookover, and didn’t find any issues so I put it all back together and started installed Windows 10 Pro 64 bit.
OS install was straightforward, and I specifically did NOT connect to the internet during installation to avoid the truncated name issue.
Once I had the OS up and running, I connected to the internet to start updates, and then I used Ninite to get all the softwares I wanted on there.
The fun began when I checked in device manager and found two items without drivers; Broadcomm USH controller, and an ‘Unknown drive’.
After a lot digging and checking, I finally found that both devices are part of the Dell Control Vault driver, which operates the Broadcomm USH system for ultra secure storage inside the drive. Once I got the correct drivers downloaded, everything checked out fine and it’s up and running smoothly!
